Doniphan County history collection, circa 1830-1942

This is an artificial collection of materials collected from and regarding the history of Doniphan County, in the northeastern most tip of Kansas. It includes meeting minutes for the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of Highland College/Academy/University for the years 1857-1868, 1887-1894, and 1935-1942; miscellaneous town company and church records (notably congregational meeting minutes and an account book for the Presbyterian church of Highland, circa 1860-1889); Iowa Point Town Company cash book, 1856-1908; 1856 proceedings of the Squatter Association of Kansas Territory for the Whitehead district; an 1874 diary for an unknown county resident; information about burial grounds in northeast Kansas; a 1970 research paper from a Washburn University student regarding Irish immigrants Patrick and John Kirwin; and materials related to Samuel Irvin, notably a mathematical exercise book used by him in the 1830s and then used for newspaper clippings regarding the opening of Highland University, as well as a commemorative speech on Irvin and on the Iowa-Sac-Fox Mission with which Irvin served near Highland.
